About Jon
Jon was born and raised in Greensboro, NC as the only child of Wayne and Carolyn Hardister. He attended Moorehead Elementary School, Kiser Middle School, and Grimsley High School.
After graduating from high school, Jon attended Greensboro College where he obtained a BA in Political Science. His plan was to attend law school after graduating from college but decided that he was ready to go to work instead. In 2006 he went to work at First Carolina Mortgage, which is a business that his family started in 1990.
Jon first developed an interest in politics during the 2000 presidential election. At the time, he was a senior in high school and didn't know a lot about politics. Given the fact that this was the first election in which he was eligible to vote, Jon decided that it would be prudent for him to study the issues so he would be an informed voter.
After taking the time to study the issues and doing research, Jon came to the realization that he has a conservative political philosophy. It simply made more sense to him that government should be kept limited in order to maximize freedom and prosperity. He then decided to register as a Republican and he has maintained a passion for politics and public service ever sense.
In 2010, after spending a lot of time being concerned about the political direction of North Carolina, Jon decided to make his first run for public office. He ran for N.C. House and challenged a well-established incumbent in a heavily Democratic district. Although he didn't win the race, he put forth a strong effort and gained more support than any Republican ever has in that particular district. He ran a positive campaign and was able to maintain a civil relationship with his opponent despite their differences.
Besides politics, Jon is very passionate about physical fitness. He maintains a regular exercise regimen and follows a balanced diet. He also enjoys playing golf, playing guitar, and reading books in his spare time.
Jon is very close to his friends and family. He is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Greensboro and maintains an interest in community developments.
